The PhD seminar is well underway! For the full month of July, SMARTlab is facilitating international PhD students in undertaking modules in Research Methods, Critical Thinking, Interdisciplinary Research Skills, Creative Technology Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship and Open Responsible Innovation! Selected external talks are also available for streaming to remote sites. This week’s highlight so far has been Dr Ian Hughes of Forfas, presenting radical ideas from his new book on Our Disordered World!
Registration is now open for the Royal Irish Academy Social Sciences committee event on Monday 10 June 2013 at 1pm. The event entitled ‘Values in University Education: from Academic Freedom to Impact and Open Innovation’ will explore shifting principles, aims and values in higher education, such as academic freedom, impact, peer review and open innovation, against the backdrop of current economic challenges.

Professor Lizbeth Goodman will be speaking on Hippocratic Innovation at Intel’s Open Innovation Summit, Dublin Castle. The objective of this conference is to bring together thought leaders, senior decision makers, policy leaders, leading executives and social innovators to initiate a develop a manifesto, platform and roadmap for sustainable economy and society development. The Centre for Learning Innovation (CLI), formerly referred to as the Learning Technology Centre (LTC), officially launched at Croke Park on Thursday 21 June 2012.
The CLI is the tenth Technology Centre to be funded by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation through Enterprise Ireland in partnership with IDA Ireland. The SMARTlab, along with CLARITY: Centre for Sensor Web Technologies, at University College Dublin, are CLI research partners from the Higher Education sector.
