Professor Lizbeth Goodman, Director
Professor Lizbeth Goodman joined UCD in 2010. She is also Founder and Director of the SMARTlab Digital Media Institute and the MAGIC Multimedia and Games Innovation Centre, Gamelab and PLAYroom. An active researcher and community technology advocate, she has published and presented widely. She was awarded a Microsoft Community Affairs Senior Research Fellowship for development of SMARTclubs for disadvantaged youth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (2006–10). She received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteer Service to Women and Children in 2003, and was shortlisted and commended for a Times Higher Award in 2007. >>
Anita McKeown, CATALYST Manager
Anita is director of the new CATALYST initiative at SMARTlab at UCD. CATALYST is SMARTlab’s Creative Arts Technology Access Lab for Youth engagement, Social inclusion and Technology transfer. Anita manages a large team of artists and technologists in residence, who will work with the lab and the wider community from CATALYST’s Dublin studio base at UCD.>>
Nigel Newbutt, SMARTlab Manager
Nigel joins SMARTlab at UCD from the London team, where he was active on numerous projects at the PLAYroom in the docklands studios as well as in the PhD Programme. His most recent full-time post was at the University of Greenwich, where he was Senior Lecturer in Digital Media and convener for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.>>
Huw is SMARTlab’s CTO (Chief Technical Officer), and was also recently appointed to head IT initiatives for LOCOG, the London Organising Committee of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He has been with SMARTlab since its inception, offering 17 years of experience in leading innovations and broadcast/audience development. >>
