Rachel Lasebikan, Communication and Events Officer
Rachel has over 15 years’ experience working in creative business innovation, marketing and development, including PR, events, research, design, product development, fundraising and corporate relations. She has done this for fashion, technology, media, social enterprise, education and non-profit organisations. She holds an MA in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London, and an Honours Degree in Fashion, specialising in Fashion Promotion, from Southampton University.
Rachel has contributed to the start-up and growth of various projects and companies, including building brand, corporate relations and legacy development for the African Broadcast Network and the African Public Broadcasting Foundation. She created the first African fairtrade clothing range, Isola Indigo, for the TS Boutique at Topshop’s flagship store. She initiated an African trends series of reports as a global contributor for the Worth Global Style Network (WGSN), supplying key stories from the continent such as ‘The Rebranding of Africa’, highlighting Africa’s Cheetah Generation and the growth of Africa’s consumer magazine industry.
For the last few years, Rachel has overseen PR, events, fundraising, community/knowledge transfer and fashion innovation research for SMARTlab Digital Media Institute, working with organisations such as the Science Museum, NESTA, Stratford Council and the Science Gallery, Ireland. She is registered as an Arts Award adviser to support young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. Aside from corporate projects, Rachel is Founder of Mojisola and is working independently to help strengthen community organisations within education, technology, fashion, sustainability and media-related projects.
